APAN2002 Pre-conference Workshop

        on Education

Workshop Committee        Proposed Program

Note: The Education workshop is free to APAN Conference attendees.
Theme:     Distance Learning - Closer Ties

Due to the regional diversity of our community, many of our counterparts in the Asia Pacific have very diverse methods of collaboration with their various partners and also different implementation of technology.

The pre-conference workshop, with the theme, "Distance Learning - Closer Ties" seeks to forge close working relationships amongst the distance learning communities by the sharing of experiences in both collaborative and technology-enabled aspects of distance learning. Through this workshop, we hope to build rapport among the DL communities to identify similar interest, to learn from each other, and hence to encourage more fruitful collaborative efforts.

The pre-conference workshop consists of 3 sessions, with presenters from major DL communicties presenting and discussing their experiences in the 2 key areas of:

- Enabling Collaborations

- Enabling Technologies

At the end of each presentation session, a short panel discussion is included in the program, involving the speakers and chairs of each session. This was planned so that the panel can tease out issues of how institutions can work together to facilitate and foster collaborations as well as ironing out concerns in the supporting technology for distance learning.

Finally, a trip to a premier Distance Learning Center in Shanghai will be included at the end of the program for participants to see first-hand, the development of DL facilities in China.
